October 10, 2000- Rod Steiger, Oscar-winning star of IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967) and ON THE WATERFRONT (1954), marries actress Joan Benedict in Reno, Nevada.*

Instead of having a honeymoon, ROD STEIGER and his new bride JOAN BENEDICT are in Salt Lake City where he is co-starring in the film Pool Hall Junkies. ``We've been honeymooning for two years,'' says the 75-year-old Oscar-winning actor. He plays a pool hall manager in the film, which also stars CHRISTOPHER WALKEN and CLINT EASTWOOD's daughter ALISON EASTWOOD.

For his 76th birthday party at his Malibu mansion, Oscar winner Rod Steiger asked his Ukrainian housekeeper to prepare ribs, chicken, shrimp, potato salad and verenike [sic] - defined as potato pierogi - plus strawberry shortcake. New York Post columnist Liz Smith says Steiger and his wife, Joan Benedict, welcomed Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye-Smith with their baby and the hilarious Jonathan Winters to the barbecue.

Ray Bradbury received Hollywood's Walk of Fame Star No. 2,193, our city's cultural equivalent to France's Légion d'Honneur on Monday, April 1, 2002.

The ceremony, presided over by Johnny Grant, was held in front of Larry Edmunds Bookshop, where Bradbury has been a customer for the past 50 years. Indeed, the morning provided spectators with a rare living connection to L.A. and Hollywood history: Joining Mayor Jim Hahn and Councilman Eric Garcetti in congratulating Bradbury were Charlton Heston and Stan Freberg, along with Rod Steiger and wife Joan Benedict.
