EVENT BENEFITS FUND IN MEMORY OF STEIGER

'Poolhall' cues up unbuttoned preem

By LAUREN HORWITCH, JESS LARSON

Black tie gave way to blue collar at the preem of "Poolhall Junkies" at the ArcLight on Wednesday night. Guests eschewed fancy hors d'oeuvres for cocktail weenies and hot wings at the Hollywood Billiards after-party benefiting the Motion Picture Television Fund in memory of Rod Steiger, who made his last appearance in the pic.

Paul Brooks, prexy of Gold Circle Films, said he took a gamble on "Poolhall" for the same reason he placed his bet on another little indie called "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."

"I thought it was a really good script. In a tough marketplace, we're going to pump it out like 'Greek' and see what happens."

Co-star Rick Schroder was also keen to cue up on the indie pic. "It's great that small, little films that can find distribution. It was fun. It wasn't terribly luxurious on the set, but I don't need much," he told Daily Variety.

Other "Poolhall" stars Chazz Palminteri and Alison Eastwood were joined by LeAnn Rimes, Samuel Goldwyn and Joan Steiger.
